This channel will be dedicated to making projects in my shop and anything else that interests me or I think will interest you. Most of what I do involves turning but content will vary. There will be a combination of uploaded videos mixed with the occasional live feed. The processes and techniques I use are the ones which work best for me and I make no claim that things on this channel are the correct or safest methods. Copy at your own risk.

Woodturning | Roughing in a Driftwood Pine Burl - Will Carbide Stand Up to the Small Stones?
Переглядів 8 тис.Рік тому
In this video I rough in a driftwood pine burl that has a lot of small stones embedded in the surface. I use a worn out Easywood Tools carbide to see if I can salvage something worthy of casting in resin down the road. This was a very oddly shaped burl that had a lot of rot on one end. I did this in Realtime and stopped frequently to show the progress and what I look for in a piece to cast. I D...

Woodturning | Basic Bowl Turning in Spectacular Birdseye
Переглядів 3,5 тис.Рік тому
In this video I make a basic bowl form an incredible piece of Birdseye maple. There were so many eyes in this that vibration was an issue. No instruction in this one, just real-time turning and some music as my shop was noisy this week. As usual I skipped most of the sanding. I hope you enjoy this video, please comment and like if you don't mind. Thank you to all who watch! Affiliate Links - Bu...

In this video I have a very simple version of a Tower of Hanoi puzzle that the newest turner can make. This project can be made as big or small as you wish and can use any scrap wood. Puzzles are very popular at craft sales, gift shops and for these at tables in restaurants. This demo is a very basic version but they can be made as fancy as you want. Homesteading | Can Chickens Weed Your Garden? -Relocating Roosters and an Asparagus Patch Experiment
Переглядів 1,2 тис.Рік тому
In this video I had to take a break from the shop to build a coop and fence and rehome the extra roosters that we got when hatching out some of our Barnevelder eggs. We had 22 chicks hatch from 24 eggs. One got taken by a raccoon so of the 21 remaining we have 7 roosters over and above our main rooster who is in the thumbnail. My hope is that these guys will forage my asparagus patch back to ba...

Woodturning |Metallic Mica Powders - Hybrid Goblet
Переглядів 3,1 тис.Рік тому
In this video I wanted to experiment with some different mica powders than I normally use. I poured enough resin to make the cup of a goblet and paired it with an ironwood stem and base. This was just for fun and not an instructional video. There is no voice over or shop sounds in the video. If you dislike music, sorry on this one. The entire process is sped up as it is multi-step and took a wh...
Woodturning | Process I Use To Prepare Burls For Casting in Resin

Woodturning | Airbrushed Elm Bowl - Another First, What Could Go Wrong?
I clue paper between plate and shick, easy for loose with gnife, no damage on backside
Brilliant 😊
<<(( I think it is beautiful ))>>
So you just set the lid back on top after it was sized and apllied pressure then went back to turning ?
What's with the long woolly sleeves ? Just asking for trouble! Doing a great job but please get dressed for lathe work.👍
That is actually a turners smock, no wool, elastic cuffs.
Nice start
Great job! I put a pencil in the tailstock chuck and it catches the ring when its parted off. No scratches 🙂
Thx for the vid. What's the eventual plan for the floor? I wonder if you saved some of the planks or...?
great review but suggest one thing at "2:00" in the video. You use your finger to show where the pillar needs to be positioned (towards the headstock) but you say, that the "pointed side should point out" and I am sure you meant "in" as that would be in the direction of the headstock. Minor issue but you could make a small adjustment. Thank you for making the video!!
That is simply beautiful. I really like the one line of maple. Wasn’t sure at first but the more I watch this the more I like it. What is the height and width of the urn?
How can you not value your time, talent and expense for only a few bucks each? Better off mowing yards if it’s money that motivates you. Otherwise give them away for free, you’re close as it is. Markets are different wherever you go. Maybe you’re in a poor economy, I don’t know. Each must decide.
I’m unsure what you mean Mike. Understand that a few bucks each times a few of each per hour is not just a few bucks. It is significant. I took my time for demonstrating purposes. These are profitable I assure you. I appreciate you watching!
I'm wondering if my vacuum chuck would hold a core, while I turned a tenon?
I cannot in good concise say for sure. It really depends on the contact surface between Chuck and core. Thank you for watching!
Beautiful bowl! Thanks for sharing! 👍🏾
Thank you Greg! I appreciate you watching!
I am not sure who Elana Ross is, but she shouldn't be reviewing this machine. If you tried to use the machine the way she has is set up you will probably hurt yourself. The second piece she inserts in the tail stock is the drive center. I cannot speak to the quality of the machine, but it is obvious this woman has not used ANY lathe, much less this one!
Hey Wesley, I have no idea who Elaine Ross is or what you are referring to. Can you elaborate please?
That looks really good, it's a pity about the blemishes. I hope you found a way to fix it.
Hey, the blemish was so minor that it did not affect the sale. I appreciate your watching!
Beautiful and classy
Thanks so much, I really appreciate it
Nice work,i am trying to get back into turning again.
I hope you can get back to it! I have been tied up for far too long. I miss turning! Thank you so much for watching.
Mr. Klondike, what angle did you sharpen your bowl gouge to? It looks like it is really effective on your turning of this bowl---beautiful work.
Hey Charlie! That is a 40-45 degree traditional grind. Thank you for watching!
Nice job
Thanks so much, I appreciate you watching!
You guys r lucky, every time I use hot glue it doesn’t work???
You need to use good glue and put it on the face and around the edge. Make sure glue surfaces are clean. I use arrow slow setting sticks and have never had an issue. Thank you for watching!
Just gorgeous. You made a beautiful wood even more beautiful.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate you watching!
Very nice.
Thank you Kerry, I really appreciate it!
Ypu need to watch Papa1945 on your angle jig
I actually did see his after I did mine. Lots of the same subscribers between us. Thanks so much for watching!
Light bulb moment!! I understand now!!
Super! Thank you for watching!
Cool project
Thank you Tim, I appreciate you watching
Cool piece, Lewis!
Thank you Billy! How all is well with you Pal!
Beautiful bowl, Lewis!
Thank you Billy, I appreciate you watching!
Qual o nome dessa madeira?
The vase is butternut. Thank you for watching!
I def just haven't had enough practice everyone I watch gets that wood throwing. I bought some carbide until I my sharpening kit shows up but the tear out it leaves is almost unsandable I can't tell if I'm doing something crazy wrong or just not technique efficient or what
Hey Justin! Carbide probably are not the answer for these. I suggest a few traditional tools, nothing throws shavings like a good gouge! I appreciate you watching.
@@TheKlondikeCraftsman yea I definitely understand a gouge is the way. I have a good set of bowl gouges and parting tools from Benjamin's best. It's just taking forever to get the sharpening jig and wheels in
You will find the learning curve is longer but worth the effort. Best of luck !
@@TheKlondikeCraftsman oh yea I have no interest in using just carbide. It's just a necessary evil right now while I wait for these long shopping orders that for some reason take three weeks
It’s a thing of beauty mate 😊
Thank you Jason, I appreciate you watching
How do you keep it from cracking wen you turn it still green. Sorry I'm new to turning wood
Some woods you can get away with. I turned it thin and that also reduces the chance for it to crack. Don’t try it with fruit woods like cherry, apple etc. Those will split in two. Thank you for watching!
❤❤ liked wire and ears..making eggs and mice..newbie skill builder
Thank you so much for watching!
I thought they were the other way up. But it’s a vase not a goblet 😊
Hey Jason, yes they are vases! Thanks so much for watching!
There is one problem I see is some people think they can use it for hummingbirds. Sorry they will never nest in it. Google it if you don't believe me. So selling it as hummingbird house would be a scam. You could use it as a knick-knack to put in your house like craftsmen's of this video states ornamental. And yes they very nice.
100% correct, hummingbirds will not live in them. The large ones always get swallows or blue birds though. Thank you for watching Lloyd!
Tools? 5/8 inch bowl gouge and scraper? Thanks
1/2" bowl gouge and a scraper. Thank you for watching!
Wow, that is gorgeous, such an honor I'm sure to make your son's wedding ring. I would sure wear one of those beautiful
I was very happy to make it for him to his specifications. Thank you for watching!
Wow, As I said I'm late to the party. But that is one fantastic bowl.
Thank you so much Barb!
Very nice, I think it would look great in purple heart as well. Thank you look forward to looking at your older video's. Appreciate your art
Thank you Barb, it would look great in purpleheart for sure! Thank you for watching!
I have no experience with copper jewelry. It seems to me like it would tarnish. I see copper pipes bottoms of copper pots and pans. They take a lot of cleaning. How about perspiration on copper??
Hey Gary, I coated it with UV resin to avoid that issue. Thank you for watching!
Thank you , these look like a good starting project… I can’t wait to try it !
They are lots of fun! I appreciate you watching!
Very smart jig. I only wish my lathe had a reverse option. Beautiful bowl!
Thanks so much! I appreciate you watching!
Why copper insert, his finger is going to turn green
Hey! I coated it with UV resin to prevent that. Copper was my son’s request. Thank you for watching!
I got a new, bigger lathe, and a new Oneway Base and bigger cutters to go with it. Because I installed the first base so long ago, I watched this a second time before setting up the new one. I had forgotten how clear and succinct this video is. Thank you!
Hey! Thanks so much! I’ve been a manufacturing guy for a long time so I just talk through my process. Thanks so much for watching!
I had to try these today. They were tons of fun!!! Thank you for the idea!
Hi! They are fun for the first few thousand! I’m glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching!
That was very informative, your narration on what and how you set it up was really helpful thank you
Thank you Roger, I really appreciate it!
Love your video nice turning and easy to follow thank you for sharing your videos Regards Steve UK London
Thank you Steve! I appreciate you Watching!
Thank you Steve, I appreciate you watching!
Really inspiring! Thanks, going to try it.
Thank you Adrian! I would love to see what you make! Thanks for watching!
Nice work, as I was watching you expertly cutting that channel for the resin I wondered, would it be of any benefit to cut a dovetail on both sides? Probably over-engineering because I’m pretty sure that resin ain’t letting go?
Hey Joe! The resin is fine as far as I know. There would be nothing wrong with making a dovetail to ensure things stayed put though. Good idea! Thank you for watching!
Wow is that really something. Beautiful turning with the Padauk. Working in sections made a lot of sense since it was so tall.
Thank you so much. Coincidentally today is the anniversary of the death of my friend for which this was made. I appreciate you watching!
Wow. That bowl is amazing. Very inspiring.
Thank you so much Pete, I appreciate you watching!
